This healthcare provider had spent $72,771 on Google Ads and received 193 leads for it. That is a cost per lead of $377, roughly 201% above the industry benchmark of about $125. Two of their three campaigns were still running and producing leads as expensive as $592 each.

We audited the account rather than immediately rebuilding it, and found three separate causes.
Campaign objective misalignment: two of the three campaigns were set to Maximize Clicks, which buys impressions and clicks rather than conversions. That setting alone explained much of the cost.
Low click-through rate, pointing at ad copy and targeting that were not landing with the intended audience.
Low search impression share: the ads appeared less than 10% of the times they were eligible, and only 30% of those impressions were in the top position, so the high-value keywords were being conceded to competitors.
