Twelve Utah AI Leaders Are Completely Invisible to AI Engines
One in four companies from the AI Utah 100 list never appeared in any AI answer to any buyer-intent prompt across all four engines tested.
12 of 47
The finding
Of the 47 companies tested from the AI Utah 100 list, 12 (25.5 percent) never appeared in any AI-generated answer across ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini, or Google AI Overview. These companies are invisible to AI-driven buyer discovery in their categories.
The twelve invisible companies are:
- Airin
- Artifact
- Bunked
- Cinco.AI
- Cynch.ai
- Drumdata.ai
- energy.work
- Harbor Health
- Jaunt
- Kahoa.ai
- Phi, Inc.
- Soar.com
How we tested
Each company received six non-branded, buyer-intent prompts written from its own website description. Four prompts were generic category searches (e.g., "best deepfake detection software"), and two were Utah-qualified (e.g., "best deepfake detection software in Utah"). No prompt ever included a company name.
Every prompt was sent to four engines with web search enabled: ChatGPT (gpt-5.5-2026-04-23), Claude (claude-sonnet-5), Gemini (gemini-2.5-pro), and Google AI Overview. This produced 1296 total queries, of which 1107 returned usable answers.
For the twelve invisible companies, all twenty-four queries (six prompts times four engines) returned zero mentions.
Who appears instead
When models do not recommend these companies, they do not leave the slot empty. They recommend competitors. For each invisible company, we recorded the five most common alternatives that appeared:
| Company | Category | Displacing Competitors |
|---|---|---|
| Bunked | Deepfake detection | Reality Defender, Sensity AI, Hive Moderation, Pindrop, Attestiv |
| Cynch.ai | Accounting automation | QuickBooks Online, Xero, FreshBooks, Zoho Books, Docyt |
| Artifact | Customer feedback | Enterpret, Productboard, Canny, Chattermill, Thematic |
| energy.work | Mental wellness | Wysa, Headspace, Woebot, Youper, Rosebud |
| Jaunt | AI travel planning | Mindtrip, Wanderlog, Layla, Layla AI, ChatGPT |
| Phi, Inc. | Personalized nutrition | Persona Nutrition, Rootine, HUM Nutrition, Elo Health, Viome |
| Soar.com | Meeting transcription | Otter.ai, Fireflies.ai, Sonix, Granola, Fathom |
The pattern is consistent: a small set of well-known national or global competitors captures the attention that local specialists do not.
Why invisibility happens
Invisibility is not random. It reflects the absence of signals that models look for when deciding who to recommend. Models with web search retrieve third-party sources and synthesise them. If a company has no presence on analyst reports, review aggregators, Wikipedia, LinkedIn, YouTube, or discussion forums, models have nothing to work with.
The invisible companies may have excellent products, strong customer relationships, and sustainable businesses. Invisibility is not a judgment of quality. It is a measurement of discoverability in one specific channel that is growing in importance.
What this means practically
For the twelve companies listed, any buyer who uses AI to shortlist vendors in their category will not see them. The buyer may find them through other channels: referrals, conferences, direct outreach, traditional search. But in the growing number of buying journeys that start with "ask the AI," these companies are not candidates.
The question for each company is whether that channel matters for their go-to-market motion. For some, it may not. For others, the absence represents a structural disadvantage that will compound as AI-assisted buying becomes more common.
