What the displacing competitors have in common

The competitors that appear share certain characteristics:

  1. Third-party validation: They appear on analyst reports, review sites, and industry publications that models read.
  2. Consistent naming: Their brand names are distinctive and unlikely to be confused with common words.
  3. Category clarity: Their positioning clearly matches how buyers search the category.
  4. Web presence breadth: They are mentioned across multiple source types that different engines prefer.

What this means for invisible companies

The displacement list is a roadmap. These are not just competitors in the market sense. They are competitors who have solved the specific problem of AI discoverability. Studying how they built their third-party presence, how they are described on review sites, and how they position their category language can inform strategy.

The question is not "how do I beat Otter.ai?" It is "how did Otter.ai become the default answer to this category question, and what would I need to do to appear alongside them?"
