Manufacturing has long sales cycles, small buying committees and almost no tolerance for marketing that cannot be tied to a meeting. It is also the largest sector in our AI visibility data, with more buying questions tracked than any other, and one of the least contested.
| Measured across 30 days | Count |
|---|---|
| Buying questions tracked in this sector | 5,056 |
| Brand mentions recorded on them | 79,349 |
| Different companies the engines named | 31,080 |
Rankxa production data, 30 days to 11 September 2026, across ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini and Google AI Overviews. The largest tracked prompt set of any sector in our data, and the most fragmented answer field.
Industrial buyers research privately and at length. By the time they reach your form they have already narrowed to two or three suppliers, and you were either on that list or you were not.
Capability matching, and the question that forms the shortlist.
Specification detail is a qualifying gate, not marketing copy.
The question that decides the shortlist more often than price.
Proof by similar project, not by client logo wall.
Industrial marketing is judged on whether the right person took a call. These are measured that way.
Qualified conversations with buying authority.
The same approach at higher volume.
Across 5,056 manufacturing questions we track, the engines named 31,080 different companies in 30 days. That is the widest spread of any sector in our data, which cuts both ways: it is harder to dominate, and far easier to enter than a concentrated category.
Sector figures are counted over the prompts in our set that ask about manufacturing. The agreement range is measured across all comparable prompts, not this sector alone.

Marketing that answers technical questions works very well on them. Marketing that avoids technical questions does not. The difference is publishing real capability data, tolerances, materials and certifications as readable facts rather than as a brochure. That serves the engineer doing private research and the assistant they may ask first.
Because it is enormously varied. We track 5,056 buying questions in it and the engines named 31,080 different companies on them in 30 days, which is the widest spread we measure. There is no single dominant name in most manufacturing categories, so the answers change more between engines and between phrasings than they do in a concentrated sector.
Good, if you move now. A fragmented field means no incumbent has locked up the answer, so being named is a matter of being retrievable and specific rather than of outspending an established brand. It also means results are less stable, so it needs measuring weekly rather than quarterly.
On leading indicators that are still honest: qualified meetings booked, specification fit of the enquiries arriving, and movement on the buying questions we track per engine. We will not claim revenue attribution on a cycle that long, because any agency that does is guessing and you should assume they know it.
Yes, and it is common in this sector. Where a client cannot be named we build proof around the problem and the specification rather than the logo. It is weaker, and we will say so, because a model cannot attribute a result to a company nobody named. Where naming is possible we push for it.
