AI marketing agency services

Four AI engines. Four different answers. Most agencies measure one.

Ask ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini and Google AI Overviews the same buying question and the brands they name overlap between 1% and 11%. We know because we track 9.8 million brand mentions across all four. If your agency reports a single AI visibility score, it is describing a situation you are not in.

The problem

You can lead Google and be invisible in ChatGPT

These are not one channel. They retrieve from different places, name different companies, and reward different work.

Google AI Overviews names fewer companies

3.3 brands per answer on average, against 6.1 to 7.2 for the chat engines.

  • Shorter lists mean the names that make it carry more weight
  • It also means a near miss shows up as a total absence
  • Winning here tells you almost nothing about the other three

Gemini and Google AI Overviews disagree with each other

Both are Google products. They agree on named brands about 1% of the time.

  • Same company, same index, different retrieval behavior
  • Optimizing for one does not carry across to the other
  • Most reporting blends them into a single number

Crawl volume is not citation

GPTBot and ClaudeBot are training crawlers. Their traffic does not predict whether you get quoted.

  • ChatGPT-User fires when a real person's question pulls your page
  • OAI-SearchBot decides whether you are eligible to appear at all
  • Page count explains 73% of AI crawl volume and almost none of AI visibility

One blocked line can zero you out

A site that disallows OAI-SearchBot cannot appear in ChatGPT search answers. It is binary.

  • We check it on every account before anything else
  • It is usually accidental and takes minutes to fix
  • Until it is fixed, every other metric is meaningless
How we work

Measure all four, then build what each one retrieves

Every engagement runs the same sequence. The order matters, because each step is wasted without the one before it.

1

Retrievability check

We confirm ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini and Perplexity can reach your pages at answer time. This is the gate that sits upstream of everything.

2

Four engine baseline

We track the questions your buyers ask before they shortlist, across all four engines separately, and record who gets named and in what order.

3

Answer pages

One page per real buying question, structured so a model can lift a clean answer out of it. Company pages account for roughly 60% of citations on commercial queries.

4

Named coverage

We earn mentions of your company by name across independent sites. Branded mentions correlate 0.664 with AI visibility. Backlinks correlate 0.218.

5

Monthly measurement

Rankxa reruns the full prompt set every week and reports movement by engine, not blended, so you can see which work moved which answer.

Rankxa access

The tracker we built and run ourselves, not a reseller license.

  • Weekly runs across all four engines
  • Position and mention rate per engine, never blended
  • Competitor set built from who actually appears on your questions

Answer page program

Written to the questions your buyers ask, not to keyword volume.

  • One page per question, structured for extraction
  • Schema markup so the facts are machine readable
  • Human written and human edited, every page

Named mention program

Coverage where your company is named in the text, not only linked.

  • Placement targets chosen on answer time retrieval, not crawl volume
  • Body text naming negotiated as a condition, not a hope
  • Position in ranked lists specified before purchase

Monthly reporting that names the cause

Movement by engine, tied to the work that produced it.

  • Which questions gained, which lost, on which engine
  • Which competitor took a position you wanted
  • What we are doing next month and why

Questions

Common questions about AI marketing agency services

What does an AI marketing agency actually do?

It makes your company appear inside the answers AI assistants give when a buyer asks for a recommendation. That means three things: confirming the engines can retrieve your site, building pages that answer the questions buyers actually ask, and earning mentions of your company by name across independent sources. It is measurement plus content plus coverage, and it is measured per engine because the engines disagree.

How is this different from SEO?

Traditional SEO optimizes for a ranked list of blue links. AI search returns a synthesized answer that names a handful of companies. The overlap between the two is smaller than most people assume. Ahrefs found only about 8% of ChatGPT citations rank in Google's top ten for the same prompt. You need both, and they are not the same work.

Can you guarantee we will appear in ChatGPT?

No, and any agency that guarantees it is selling something. OpenAI states plainly that placement is not guaranteed. What we can do is remove the technical blocks, build the pages the retrieval layer can use, earn the mentions that correlate with visibility, and measure the result every week so you can see whether it is working.

How long does it take?

The retrievability fix is immediate, sometimes same day. Page and mention work compounds over months rather than weeks. One retail client moved from 14% to 65% share of relevant AI answers in three weeks, but that is the fast end and it followed an unusually clean technical starting point. Plan on a quarter before the curve is convincing.

Why do you report each engine separately?

Because a blended score describes a situation no company is actually in. In our data the three chat engines agree with each other about 11% of the time, and Google AI Overviews agrees with them around 1% of the time. Averaging those four numbers produces a figure that is true of nothing.

Do you work with agencies?

Yes. Rankxa is available to agencies as a white label measurement layer, and we run generative search programs on behalf of other agencies' clients. See our generative SEO for agencies page.
