Arteaga's Food Center is a family owned Mexican grocery and taqueria in Gilroy, California, the kind of store a town grows up around. In August 2020 it had customers, a bilingual community and no social media at all: no Facebook page, no Instagram, no email list, and no way to tell regulars about a weekend special beyond a sign in the window.

We built the pages from scratch and posted in both English and Spanish, because the following turned out to be split almost evenly by language. Two small Facebook and Instagram campaigns ran side by side: page likes to build the local audience, and a newsletter sign up campaign that traded a lead form for a discount, with the list flowing into Mailchimp. Posting times were tuned to the 6pm to 9pm window where the audience was actually online.
